Northampton has a lot of shared housing, helped by the University of Northampton's Waterside campus and the town's commuter links. West Northamptonshire Council's additional HMO licensing scheme, which began in February 2025 and runs to 2030, extends licensing to smaller shared houses with three or four occupiers from two or more households in the designated areas. Licence applications ask for a current EICR, and the council can request your report at any time.
For HMOs we can test the fixed installation, supplied appliances and the fire alarm and emergency lighting in a single visit. Since BS 7671 Amendment 2, new socket circuits in HMOs also need arc fault detection, which matters if your board is being replaced. See landlord certificates.
