Sockets & switches

Extra double sockets, USB-C sockets, outdoor sockets for the garden and replacement switches in a finish you like, added safely to your existing circuits.

Most homes don't have enough sockets where people need them: by the bed, behind the TV, along the kitchen worktop, in the home office. The result is a tangle of extension leads and adaptors, and overloaded adaptors are a real fire risk. Adding sockets properly is usually quick and much cheaper than people expect.

What we fit

  • Extra single and double sockets on existing circuits
  • Sockets with built-in USB-A and USB-C charging
  • Outdoor weatherproof sockets for garden tools, pressure washers and hot tubs
  • Replacement sockets and switches in metal, black, brushed or flat-plate finishes
  • Floor sockets and sockets in kitchen islands
  • Fused spurs for appliances, heated towel rails and boilers

Doing it safely

Adding a socket is more than connecting wires. We check the existing circuit first: whether it's a ring or a radial, whether it's already overloaded with spurs, and whether it has RCD protection. BS 7671 requires 30 mA RCD protection for socket outlets rated up to 32 A, and for cables buried less than 50 mm in a wall. If your circuit isn't RCD-protected we'll explain the options, which range from an RCD socket to a consumer unit upgrade.

New cables run within the safe zones, vertically or horizontally from an accessory, so whoever hangs a picture or a shelf later knows where not to drill.

Outdoor sockets

An outdoor socket needs a weatherproof enclosure (IP66 is typical), a properly sealed cable entry and RCD protection. Mounted at a sensible height on the wall, it's far safer than an extension lead through a window. For hot tubs, garden offices or workshops, a dedicated circuit is usually the right answer, and we'll quote for that instead.

Kitchens

Kitchen sockets get heavy use from kettles, toasters and air fryers, all high-power appliances. We keep sockets clear of the sink and hob, and we make sure integrated appliances have switched fused spurs above the worktop so they can be isolated without pulling them out.

How it works

From first message to finished job

01

Tell us about the job

A short message with a photo or two is usually enough for us to understand the job and give you a price.

02

Clear price

We confirm the cost, what's included and roughly how long it will take before you agree to anything.

03

The work

We protect floors and furniture, isolate the circuit, do the job to BS 7671 and test it before we leave.

04

Paperwork

You get the right certificate for the work, a minor works certificate or an installation certificate, plus building control notification where the law requires it.
